North Central Coast Regional Stakeholder Group (NCCRSG) Marine Protected Area (MPA) Proposals (March 2008)

The North Central Coast Regional Stakeholder Group (NCCRSG) is the primary source of alternative marine protected area proposals to the MLPA Blue Ribbon Task Force; however, the MLPA Initiative is an open, transparent process and others have submitted MPA proposals to the task force and NCCRSG for review and consideration.

Based upon the October 2007 draft options for MPA arrays developed by the NCCRSG work groups and draft proposals submitted from outside the NCCRSG work group process, four draft MPA proposals and one external MPA proposal were developed and submitted in December 2007 for review and consideration in the MLPA Initiative process.

The four draft MPA proposals were further refined and reduced to three MPA proposals at the March 18-19, 2008 NCCRSG meeting, resulting in NCCRSG MPA Proposal 1-3, NCCRSG MPA Proposal 2-XA and NCCRSG MPA Proposal 4. These proposals will be evaluated and then presented to the MLPA Blue Ribbon Task Force on April 22-23, 2008. In addition to these proposals, the existing array of MPAs (Proposal Zero) will also be evaluated and reviewed.
